Engraving is limited to that one collection. Our sake ware, tableware, chopsticks, decanter sets and Bohemian crystal pairs are not engraved — they arrive exactly as they are made.

Engraved by the artisan, not by a machine

Most personalized glassware is laser-etched. A machine burns the text into the surface at a fixed depth, in a fixed spot, and the result is identical on every piece.

That is not what happens here. Your name is cut by hand — by the same artisan who cut the pattern into the glass, using the same wheel and the same trained eye. The stroke has weight to it. Held to the light, the engraving refracts the way the rest of the cutting does, because it was made the same way.

Why we choose the placement

Every Edo Kiriko glass carries a cut pattern, and no two patterns leave the same open space. A kiku-tsunagi chrysanthemum field covers the body densely; a yarai lattice leaves clean panels between the cuts. A name that sits beautifully on one glass would collide with the pattern on another.

So the artisan decides where the engraving goes, reading the name against the cutting on that specific piece. It is the same judgment that goes into the pattern itself — knowing where a line belongs and where it does not.

This means we do not take placement requests, and we do not send a proof before cutting. What we offer instead is the judgment of someone who has spent years learning where a mark should sit on this exact kind of glass.

How it works

1. Choose an Edo Kiriko whisky glass. Engraving is available across that collection and nowhere else in the shop.
2. Add the name in your order notes. At checkout, type what you would like engraved in the notes field. First names work best.
3. We confirm by email. If anything is unclear — a spelling, an unusual character — we will write to you before the glass goes to the bench.
4. The artisan cuts it. Engraving and finishing take three business days.
5. It ships. Packed in its wooden gift box, ready to give.

Before you order

• Names work best. Short text sits well on cut crystal. Long phrases do not — the surface is faceted, not flat.
• Check the spelling. We cut exactly what you write in the order notes. Read it twice.
• Engraved pieces are final sale. Because each one is cut by hand for one person, an engraved glass cannot be returned or exchanged. This is the one thing worth being certain about before you order.

Does engraving cost extra?
No. It is free on every Edo Kiriko whisky glass.

How long does it take?
Three business days for engraving and finishing, then shipping time on top.

Can I see a proof first?
No. The artisan works directly on the glass. What we can tell you is that the placement is chosen deliberately, by the person who cut the piece.

Can I choose where the name goes?
No — the pattern on each glass determines that. See above.

Can I return an engraved glass?
No. Engraved pieces are final sale.

What if I want a glass without engraving?
Simply leave the order notes blank. Every glass is beautiful unmarked; engraving is an option, not an expectation.

Can you engrave a sake set, chopsticks or a decanter set?
No. Engraving is available on the Edo Kiriko whisky glasses only.

What to engrave

A first name is the most common choice, and usually the best one. Beyond that, a few that work:

• A retirement gift: the name of the person leaving, on a glass they will use for years after.
• Groomsmen: each man's name on his own glass — a set that is not really a set, since every piece is different.
• An anniversary: crystal marks the fifteenth year. A name on hand-cut crystal marks it better.
• A housewarming: a name for the person, or the family name for the home.
